There We Were

There we were… just you and I,
time stood still, yet flew on by.
Your smile urged me to forget the past,
so I let go of it at last.

We walked through fountains
in the heat, refreshing water,
cool not deep.

You talked of all, your future plans
as my heart fell into sinking sand.

At once, I was your one and only;
now I’m just the one who’s lonely.

Message from the author: This is a poem I wrote the summer I turned 20 years old while working at a Girl scout camp as a camp counselor… it was the best job ever to have fun and laugh and be silly with the kids! That’s just some background though… I was an inspired writer that summer.
