Slip Away
What are they saying? Are they calling me?
What are they saying? Slip away.
The drumbeat, the rhythm I hear, the voices come, the voices are loud saying, “Move, go, run, and run some more. Slip away!”
Jump and swim, go and get away, pay no never mind to the waves.
They are better than this ship. What are they saying? Are the waves calling me or the drums or the rope… will I get hung? What or who is calling me?Is it you Lord? Who do I hear? Slip away.
I need discernment. I need rest. I need peace. I need to be rescued
from this ship. Where are they taking me? I do not know. Help me Lord, help me. Oh Lord, what shall I do? Slip away.
Dance, sit, spin, run, keep silent, shout or tell everyone
I’m leaving this ship, but where will I go? I ought to dance my way off the edge, not dance to be fit to be sold, abused, and dead. Slip away.
I know I go to the rock of my salvation. I go to the rock that
the builders rejected, and I run. I run as fast as I can, and I keep running till no more breath is in my body. I run until I have no
more body but a soul. Slip away.
I run, I tell you, I run but do not follow me cuz you’ll get caught,
but not me. I am swift and invisible. They will not see me nor hear me
nor smell me. No dog can sniff me. Slip away.
For I cannot say goodbye, cuz then you’ll know that I am gone.
I must just go when they say go. Who are they? Lord help me to hear your voice, cuz I must leave here now, soon, in a few minutes or hours.I cannot tell you. Slip away.
When you look I’ll just be gone cuz I must now slip away.
Slip away to freedom and whatever that entails, I must escape
this place. Where is the ship going I do not know, what is there I
do not know. Slip away.
Will I survive the ship trip, I do not know. They say some don’t
but who are they and how do they know? I just know I can’t go there. But wait, are you there Lord, I do not know. Ok, slip away, slip away now. Shhh, don’t tell nobody, just leave me be.
Slip away…slip away…slip away.
